OSTEOARTHRITIS – Pain Management with BCP Oil

OSTEOARTHRITIS - Pain Management with BCP Oil »

When we talk to people at the markets or over the phone about what is the cause of their pain and inflammation, arthritis is one of the biggest culprits.  Especially, osteoarthritis!!  So let take a look at this nasty condition that so many Australians suffer from.

I found the following information from the Arthritis Australia website:

What is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition that affects the whole joint which includes the bone, cartilage, ligaments and muscles. It is often referred to as ‘wear and tear’, but now it is more commonly said to be the result of the joint actually working extra hard trying to repair itself.

OA may include:

  • Inflammation of the tissue around a joint
  • Damage to joint cartilage – this is the protective cushion on the ends of your bones which allows a joint to move smoothly
  • Bony spurs growing around the edge of a joint
  • Deterioration of ligaments (the tough bands that hold your joint together) and tendons (cords that attach muscles to bones).

Knees, hips, finger joints and big toe is where OA mostly occurs.  OA can develop at any age but those aged over 40 years are more likely to experience it, especially if they have had damage to any of their joints in the past.

Can you believe it – 1 in 5 Australians (22%) over the age of 45 have osteoarthritis. What causes it?

The following is a list of conditions that may put you in the higher risk category of developing OA:

  • knees: being overweight; having a previous knee injury; jobs involving kneeling; climbing and squatting
  • hips: being overweight; having a previous hip injury; jobs involving lifting heavy loads (including farming); a family history of OA
  • hands: a family history of OA; repetitive use or previous injuries to the hands; being overweight.

What treatments are there for osteoarthritis?

In general terms, treatment usually includes:

  • a weight loss program, if you are overweight
  • an exercise program tailored to your condition and ability
  • pain management, using medicines such as paracetamol or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – this is where Canna Oils BCP fits in perfectly.
  • devices such as braces, walking sticks, and shoe insoles
  • joint replacement surgery, if your symptoms are no longer controlled with other therapies.

Ok, so how exactly can Canna Oils BCP oil or Bodease Balm help?

Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) is a sesquiterpene that is present in 1000’s of plants, including cannabis, black pepper, and cloves. BCP is known for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, this terpene interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), particularly the CB2 receptors, which play a crucial role in modulating pain and inflammation.

Scientific Evidence:

  1. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: A study published in the European Journal of Pharmacology (2014)  explored the anti-inflammatory effects of BCP. The research suggests that BCP can suppress inflammatory responses, potentially mitigating the inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.
  2. CB2 Receptor Activation: Research published in PLOS ONE (2014) investigates the interaction of BCP with CB2 receptors. The study suggests that activating CB2 receptors may have therapeutic potential in managing inflammatory and neuropathic pain, which are common symptoms of osteoarthritis.
  3. Cartilage Protection: In a study published in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry (2018)  BCP demonstrated chondroprotective effects. The research suggests that BCP may help protect and preserve cartilage, which is crucial in preventing the progression of osteoarthritis.
