We love getting feedback on our products, positive and not so positive. Here’s a statement that we hear occasionally – “that oil makes me burp and all I can taste is the oil, I can’t stand it” or “I can’t tolerate the taste – I just can’t take it”.
If you are one of those that experience this after incorporating Canna Oils BCP into your wellness routine, hopefully I’ve got some solutions for you. We never want anyone to stop taking their oils and miss out on potential benefit, just because of taste or an aftertaste.
Firstly, let me share mine and Chris’ experience when we first starting taking BCP. It did repeat on us too! I remember saying to Chris – “oh my goodness, all I can taste is that oil”. For us, this only lasted a few weeks, and now we really don’t even taste it all – the benefit we were receiving far out weighted any dislike of the taste. So my first suggestion is – persistence. If you can push through, eventually it will get better!
So, why is taste an issue? The answer lies in the nature of BCP itself.
1. BCP is an Oil-Based Compound
Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) is a terpene commonly found in essential oils. When you ingest oil-based supplements, they can sometimes lead to minor digestive issues, such as burping, as your body processes the oil. This is similar to the way people sometimes experience “fish burps” after taking fish oil supplements.
2. Strong Flavour Profile
BCP is known for its peppery and earthy taste, which can linger in your mouth or digestive system, leading to an aftertaste. Since BCP is present in higher concentrations in supplements than what you would normally consume from foods, the flavour may be more noticeable, and that lingering aftertaste can come up again through burping.
3. How to Minimise Burping or Aftertaste
To reduce the chances of burping or experiencing an aftertaste when taking BCP:
- Take it with food: Consuming BCP with a meal can help your body process the oil more smoothly. This can also help with better absorption.
- Hold under tongue for longer: If you swallow too soon, then more of the oil is being swallowed than is being absorbed directly into the blood stream. So maybe hold for a bit longer – between 40–60 seconds.
- Smaller Doses: Starting with a smaller dose of BCP and gradually increasing it can help your body adjust to the oil over time.
4. How to mask the taste
If your issue is more the actual taste rather than after effects, here are some more recommendations:
- Ensure that you are placing your drops UNDER the tongue (not on the tongue, where are taste buds are).
- Allow the saliva to well up before swallowing – that 40-60 seconds can help.
- Place your dosage into a medicine cup and mix with your choice of carrier oil. For example, hemp seed oil, avocado oil or coconut oil. Then place under your tongue.
- Pop a tic tac or mint after taking your Canna-oils BCP to hide the aftertaste.
- If all else fails, then apply your dosage to the soles of your feet and allow the oil to absorb before putting footwear on.
Though these side effects can be a little bothersome, they don’t impact the potential benefits of Canna Oils BCP products. This powerful terpene is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties as well as improving mood and sleep, making it worth the effort to find the best way to incorporate it into your routine.
