BRAIN CANCER, RADIATION & BCP – THE LATEST RESEARCH

Can Beta-Caryophyllene Help Fight Aggressive Brain Cancer?

I’m always on the look out for the latest research on our hero compound –  Beta Caryophyllene (BCP).  Below is a break-down of a PubMed study published 13 December 2024 – so it’s pretty much hot off the press.  The research looked at Brain Cancer, radiation and how BCP could potentially be a game-changer in treatment.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat brain cancers. Unfortunately, even with treatments like radiotherapy (RT), GBM often resists treatment, which makes it incredibly challenging to manage. But thankfully these researchers thought, “what if there was a natural compound that could make radiation therapy more effective?” And that’s where beta-caryophyllene (BCP) comes in!BCP is a natural cannabinoid (also known as a terpene oil or CB2 oil) found in plants like black pepper and cloves. What the researchers found exciting was BCP’s ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, which means it can directly reach brain cells. Scientists discovered that BCP can help trigger cancer cell death by activating a specific pathway in the body called PPARγ.

But they had further questions – “could it also make radiation therapy work better against GBM?”The study tested this idea by treating GMB cells and tumour-bearing mice with either radiation, BCP, or both. The results were eye-opening!

When used together, BCP enhanced the effects of radiation, making it more effective at killing cancer cells. Researchers found that BCP slowed down the repair of damaged cancer cell DNA, giving radiation more time to do its job. It also reduced the activity of survival signals in the cancer cells, making them more likely to die.Even more promising, BCP helped shrink tumours in mice without causing any noticeable side effects. This suggests that BCP could be a powerful, natural way to boost radiation therapy and improve outcomes for GBM patients. While of course, more research is needed, this study highlights the potential of BCP as a game-changer in brain cancer treatment. As many of us already believe, nature holds the key to better cancer therapies. It seems that the science behind BCP is certainly backing this up!

That’s why we’ve created our Canna Oils Ultra and Ultra Blend products—highly concentrated BCP formulations designed to maximise therapeutic benefits. Ultra delivers pure, potent BCP for targeted support, while Ultra Blend combines BCP with Hemp Seed Oil when a carrier oil is preferred. With research now highlighting BCP’s potential in cancer treatment and beyond, our products offer an easy solution to tap into this powerful compound’s benefits.
