Hey there, Canna Oils family!
I had been asked in the past if Beta Caryophyllene (BCP) helps lower cholesterol, and frankly, I didn’t know the answer. So to redeem myself, I went searching, and I found this interesting study. Published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition in 2018, the study looked at whether BCP can help lower cholesterol.
The results were very promising. Basically, they concluded that a conservative dose of BCP significantly lowered total cholesterol and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels while increasing good cholesterol (HDL). This dose also improved liver health, reducing liver enlargement, fat accumulation in the liver, and the levels of liver enzymes that indicate damage. Additionally, it boosted the activity of an important antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase).
Interestingly, the higher doses of BCP didn’t show as many benefits. This study suggests that BCP can help lower cholesterol and protect against related diseases like atherosclerosis and fatty liver.
Obviously, our BCP oil is no replacement for a healthy diet, but I was pleased to read this study as it shows that by incorporating this wonderful plant-based supplement into our wellness regimen, we can help to maintain or even improve our overall health – and that’s got to be a good thing 🙂
Last thought – it’s important that we don’t forget that our brains are made up mostly of fat, so eating good fats is essential for a healthy brain. So we don’t want to cut fats out completely, just the nasty ones. Foods high in Omega 3 fats will not only help improve brain function but could also aid with the absorption of your BCP drops – check out these blogs if your interested.
