Diabetes and Associated Complications

This week’s blog is based around an image that I came across and I found it absolutely fascinating.  So I went searching for the study that the image belonged to.  I found a 2020 study titled:

Therapeutic Potential of β-Caryophyllene: A Dietary Cannabinoid in Diabetes and Associated Complications.

Take a close look at the below image.

Fascinating – agreed??

So here is a summary of what the study reported.

Recent preclinical studies have highlighted some fascinating benefits of Beta Caryophyllene (BCP), known as a terpene or dietary cannabinoid found in many essential oils like clove and black pepper. Here’s a breakdown of what the researcher found:

  • BCP Improves Insulin Function: By boosting insulin secretion and sensitivity, which helps to manage blood sugar levels.
  • BCP Enhances Glucose Metabolism: By helping the body absorb glucose more efficiently and reduces glucose absorption from the gut.
  • BCP Lowers Cholesterol and Triglycerides: By lowering levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood.
  • BCP Boosts Fat Metabolism: By increasing fatty acid oxidation and aiding in the maintenance of lipid balance in the body.
  • BCP Insulin Boosting: By stimulating insulin production via mechanisms involving CB2 receptors and PPARs (receptors involved in fat and glucose metabolism).

Why BCP is Special?

BCP is recognised for specifically targeting CB2 receptors and influencing other receptors and enzymes vital for glucose and lipid metabolism. This makes it a unique and powerful component of many essential oils used in traditional diets and medicines.

Potential Uses

Thanks to its health benefits, natural occurrence, dietary availability, and low toxicity, BCP shows promise for treating:

  • Insulin Resistance (IR)
  • Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM)
  • Obesity
  • High Cholesterol (Hyperlipidemia)
  • Diabetic Complications

Future Prospects

As always, more studies are needed to support the above, but this study shows that BCP could also be used alongside current medications to enhance their effects and reduce side effects.

Conclusion

BCP is a promising candidate for improving metabolic health due to its ability to support glucose and lipid metabolism. Keep an eye out for future developments in this exciting field!

Wow, this study really shows some exciting possibilities of our beloved BCP!!! If you have diabetes or just want to stay healthy, then incorporating Canna Oils BCP into your wellness routine is a must!!!
